Oxymorons Available Here

This has been an eventfully uneventful week.  How is that for being contradictory?  It has been eventful in that, for the first time ever, the flu bug has invaded our household.  Which means that our week has been uneventful, because we've been stuck at home, lying around doing nothing.

It all started on Tuesday evening when Ruth began complaining of achiness here and there, as well as a headache.  This is unusual for her, so I gave her some medicine and put her to bed.  The next morning she awoke with fever and chills and a sore throat.  We made a trip to the doctor's office, which was eventful because Ruth hasn't been to the doctor in so long that we couldn't even remember her last visit.  The doctor ran some tests and confirmed the diagnosis of "flu".

Happy, happy, joy, joy.

So, a $20 copay and $50 worth of prescriptions later (and yes, I realize what a blessing it is to have insurance because it would have been astronomical otherwise), we came home and Ruth crashed on the couch.  She's pretty much lived there on the couch since then.  Uneventful, right?

We were limping along, doing a little bit of schoolwork as we were able, keeping the meds going and pushing the liquids as often as possible.  Her temperature was staying around 102* until Thursday evening, when it crept up to 103* and kept trying to go higher.  After a few doses of the alternating ibuprofen and acetaminophen, it seemed that the fever was only getting worse.  I, of course, started to worry and called on my trusty facebook friends for advice and prayers.

I put Ruth in a tepid bath, which helped the temp to drop a little.   Then, a friend suggested giving her a mustard powder foot bath.  At that point, I was ready to try just about anything, so we gave it a shot.  Eventful.  After about 15 minutes, her temp had come down a full degree.  So, I don't know if it was the mustard powder, the bath, the medicine finally started working, or all the prayers (or a combination of all those things!), but she was able to cool down and then sleep soundly through the night.  Uneventful.

Today, she has still had a low grade fever, but it has been easily controlled with Tylenol & Motrin.  And now we're back to being uneventful.

At least we were... until the youngest one came down with a bit of a fever himself tonight.  * sigh *  Here we go again!

Keep us in your prayers!
